The current New York Review of Books had an interesting article about the book--check it out.
Actually, Germs has been published. It is available from The Waywiser Press in London. You can order it from www.waywiser-press.com/orders. The book has gone through the roof in the UK.
Ah, but we can wait for the US edition and not have to pay shipping over the pond!
