Cool

The current exhibition at the American Visionary Art Museum is one of their best so far. I particularly enjoyed the series of religious oil paintings featuring apes, chimps, and oranguatans in the guises of St. Christopher, Adam and Eve, and Christ himself. They were exquisitely imagined and achieved, and I've seen many grand old cathedrals with worse art in them across Europe. The painter was a schizophrenic mute.

There are: fingerpaintings by Baltimore's own Betsy the Chimp; architecural schemata by Temple Grandin; wonderfully wrought carvings of animals; some works by Bruce Bickford, including Prometheus Garden, which is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

You've got to hurry if you want to see this show, however. Only a week left!
