Oh, snap!

Got my teacher certification exam results:

I passed the Praxis II Content Knowledge exam with the highest score possible. They sent me a certificate of excellence, suitable for immediate recycling.

I FAILED the Praxis II Pedagogy exam, meaning I have to send the faceless, amorphous creatures hiding out at ETS another $150 so I can take it again in a week.

Suck, suck, suck.

Oh, well. I knew I failed it that day. I ran out of time on the second essay. Gotta pace myself. I'd thought I'd nailed the first essay and bombed the second, but got nearly identical scores on them both.

Suck, suck, suck.

I rarely fail exams. The only other time it happened, in fact, was during entrance tests for the NSA. I had to pass four tests in two days, and only fell under minimum standards on one: translating a French language news conference on the fly. Now I'm twice a failure. D'oh.

So was this test before or after the trip to Amsterdam? Maybe you had too much coffee and it affected your brain! Can't imagine how you didn't pass a test! Your Mother's going to be really pissed!

I agree... amterdam coffee... tsk tsk.

seriously. I can't imagine anyone in that entire rotten school system knowing (or caring!?!?!?) as much as you, much less more than you.

do you get to "fail" them on all the shortcomings of their curriculum? how about their terrible integration (and nearly complete lack of relevance) into the daily lives of the students?

if you "fail" then I weep (even more) for that cesspool. How much farther down does this system have to fall before anyone wakes up?

I took the test a week before Amsterdam. Coffee consumption would have helped me relax and get the job done.

Thanks for the kind words. There are lots of teachers in the City schools who care and know a lot--there are several at Booker T. Unfortunately the system is a mess. This test is run by ETS, the folks who handle all the mysterious professional tests. I think they're in a cult compound in Jersey. And the State of MD sets the bar for results, not Balto City. I'm actually perversely pleased in a way that there is a ridiculously hard test for English teachers. It means something that they have to pass this bear.

Failing this is not that big a deal. I know many teachers who've taken that test three or four times. It's hard. I didn't listen to people who warned me, and paid the price. I make it a big deal because I have high expectations.

Round two, next Saturday.

where is the part where you say "April Fools"?

It is ok big bro,,,I am still very proud of you! I think you may be intellectually human after all.

I've never denied being human. But now that Cylons look like humans...

One of the very young kids in my MA program who has struggled to keep up all year passed both of these tests on her first go. I was so happy for her and proud, but she was SHOCKED that I failed one. I have a reputation, after all. They call me The Wizard.

are you sure you are not just hearing them wrong? they could be saying you are the "wizzer."

I was also shocked. I am the one who fails things, not you....
