there's a crab in my oyster!

there's a crab in my oyster!, originally uploaded by Blog-Sothoth.

An oyster shucked this evening by our biologist friend had a baby crab inside--as of 12:30 am it was still living. The biologist and his son took it home to see if they could keep it going in their aquarium.

Was the oyster eating the crab or the crab eating the oyster?

I think they were both having a feast--and the crab was winning. But humans intervened. The biologist said had they both lived in the sea the oyster eventually would have digested the crab.

We have found several crabs in our clams. Ate them anyway. Birgit Saint Clair Shores, Michigan

This is an oyster crab, or a Pea crab. Its a parasite that eventually kills the host. harmless to eat though and a delicacy to some :D
