Mt. Vernon

lighting, originally uploaded by Blog-Sothoth.

Every first Thursday in December there is a nifty fireworks show at the original Washington Monument. It was warmer than usual and a bit rainy but hoards of people showed and waited patiently for Mayor Dixon to arrive so we could countdown and enjoy the pyrotechnics. A good time was had by all.

Wow. These photos remind me of the book Library of Dust. I like decrepit things that have their own beauty, and a sad story which adds poignance doesn't hurt.

There was a great article in Harper's last year about Detroit's decay--I can't remember if these photos were included, and I'm too lazy to look it up.
