The second still is from Eyes Without a Face--a must-see Criterion disc that also features a wonderful short documentary about Parisian abattoirs, also directed by Georges Franju.
I'm sure John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper saw Franju's stuff before making their stylistic slasher flicks.
